Product Review: NRS Ninja

JKlatt: Scotland-CastleStalker JKlatt: Scotland-CastleStalker

The Ninja. Specialised assassins and secret agents of medieval Japanese warfare. They were highly-trained in the martial arts, especially what later became known as ninjutsu or ‘the art of the ninja’.

Now to name a product after such a deadly warrior is quite frankly, very bold! Especially as that product is a buoyancy aid. This really got me thinking, what makes the NRS Ninja buoyancy aid similar to a specialised assassin?

For those who haven't seen many PFD's by NRS, this 2020 model is now in its third generation.

The Ninja has been designed to keep you safe on the water, but you won't realise you are wearing it!

Combining a low cut profile with chamfered edges and a dual-layer design all helps wrap the Ninja around your body to improve overall comfort.
What's more, NRS have taken the Clamshell pocket design from their whitewater PFD, the NRS Zen, to add maximum storage possibilities.

On first use, although the overall cut felt really nice the Ninja felt just a little rigid. This feeling passed very quickly however, and it soon loosened up. A little flex before trying it on really helps.

Within no time I had completely forgotten I was even wearing this deadly weapon of silent assassination. It didn't once get in the way of anything I was using it for, which included yoga, washing my van, and cooking a lasagne. Not to forget actually paddling!

I really like the colour choice too. It's common to see green, blue and red buoyancy aids, and although this is no different with the Ninja, the brightness and reflective detailing bring a smile to my face on even the darkest days. I love the compromise between total pocket space and the low profile nature of the PFD, so you can carry what you want without the stress of a bulky feel.

So YES, this is specialised. YES in my opinion it is a secret assassin. And YES it has every right to own the label of "The Art of the Ninja"!

We've loved to see NRS grow in popularity with our customers over the past few years, and their products really are something for the list of things to consider with any purchase. The Ninja is no different. If you are looking for a stylish, low cut PFD that is easy to get on and off for Touring, Surfing or Playboating and still want to carry personal rescue equipment, the NRS Ninja is it!
