Black Friday is fast approaching (or should we say "Black Friday Season") and there are sales everywhere!
We’ve already got a tonne of amazing deals and discounts on offer, but this November we’re trying to do something good for the environment and offset some of the carbon footprint associated with Black Friday, by taking part in “Green Friday”.
Throughout the week leading up to Black Friday, our staff will be leaving the office (accompanied by their Pawsome pals too) to take part in beach & river clean ups in the local area.
As a company we are aware that our carbon footprint isn't always the best, and we try our best to reduce it wherever possible. This even includes simple things like switching lights off, turning the heating down in the office, and encouraging employees to cycle to work, or work from home when they can, to reduce the emissions from their normal commute by car.
In the warehouse, we’ve switched to using sustainably sourced paper bags for shipping our customers’ orders. These bags are 100% recyclable and biodegradable, made from sustainably sourced, plastic-free materials so we can keep being kind to the ocean that we know and love. By using these bags we are also able to contribute to the 1% for the planet fund.
(Look out for a different animal on each bag. A reminder of what our efforts help to protect!)
We also reuse any cardboard boxes which are sent to us by our suppliers. Although our waste cardboard is already sent for recycling, reusing boxes for our outgoing customer orders helps to reduce the amount we need to simply throw away, and means we don’t need to order as much cardboard for our packaging in the first place.
In 2022 we thought it was about time we solidified our commitment to the waters we use and rely on, so we became proud members of the Ocean Network with Surfers Against Sewage. This was our way of giving a little back to our planet & most definitely a step in the right direction.
Our commitment to the Ocean Network helps to fund educational projects all over the country and supports the charity of over 140,000+ volunteers to encourage change to start now.
We know we're not exactly carbon neutral, at least not yet anyway.... But adjusting every day habits and introducing small changes all adds up to the bigger picture.
If we don't protect our waterways, or the special places we love to visit around our coastline, then they won't be there for future generations to enjoy.
That's a fact, and that's why this Black Friday we'll be doing our bit instead.
