The 4/3 Wetsuit, a luxury purchase or the one suit quiver for many surfers?
Surf Manager Mike, gives us the lowdown on all you need to know.
"The 4mm Wetsuit is a popular choice for a lot of water enthusiasts, buy budget and you can wear it from May to November, go high end and you might just get away with it all year round in the southwest of the UK.
It has been the norm for surfers to buy a 3mm and 5mm wetsuit to cover their needs through the 4 seasons, however, with technology ramping up and suits continuing to get warmer, the 4mm suit is becoming the go-to for many enthusiasts.
Let's look at why the 4mm is making waves in the wetsuit market:
Pros
Warmer than a 3mm
More Flexible than a 5mm
Add a 1mm hooded vest and you can use it all year round in the warmer waters of the UK
Add premium accessories and it's your one-suit quiver
Not essential to buy any other suit in the warmer parts of the UK
Great suit to travel around Europe in the Winter
Winter-worthy warmth in mid to high-end suits
Summer worthy flexibility
Cons
Generally more expensive than a 3mm suit
Can be warm in the height of summer (depending on the range)
Doesn't give you the overall warmth of a 5mm hooded suit in the winter
The pros of a 4mm Wetsuit override the cons, I jump into mine as soon as possible and pair it with 3mm boots from April to May, then get back in it from November to December. So, if you don't use the water in the depths of winter, you could be comfortable in a 4mm for around 9 months of the year.
Remember, the stitching in a suit is vitally important in keeping you warmer for longer, we recommend a glued and blind stitched suit as a minimum, grab a suit with taped seams and a thermal chest and back panel and you will get the most out of a 4mm. We have some super deals on a range of 4mm suits here.
Drop us a message with any questions. Stay safe and have fun, whatever your escape!"
