It's official. We've turned our backs on the traditional Black Friday deals and have welcomed in Green Friday.
You might remember last year when the team at Escape took part in a couple of small beach cleans as our way to give back to our planet for Green Friday, rather than encouraging people to panic buy at flash sale deals.
This year we wanted to step it up and solidify our commitment to our planet by joining the Ocean Network with Surfer's Against Sewage. To compliment this new addition, we have planned another team beach clean for Green Friday!
Early this year, Surfer's Against Sewage commissioned a poll on how the public feel about the water in the UK. The results showed "over half of the British Public (52%) were scared of swimming outside due to not knowing if the water is clean or polluted" (Taken from the SAS mid-year 2022 report).
As a brand we are passionate about encouraging people in to the water and we want to be able to continue to do so by helping people feel safe and comfortable in that environment.
Why else is it important to keep our beaches and rivers clean?
- Instantly removing the plastic will prevent it from causing further damage.
- Fishing nets can tangle marine life and cause harm.
- The plastic won't biodegrade so will just continue to break down into smaller pieces, taking hundreds of years to degrade.
- Checmicals added to the plastic during manufacturing can seep into the marine environment.
- Animals will often mistake the plastic for food, and some species cannot digest it so it will sit in their stomachs, eventually killing them.
If you want to keep up to date with our beach clean then follow along on Facebook or instagram and keep your eyes peeled, and please feel free to share your own beach clean images with us too!
