First you need to find the right buoyancy aid for you. Then you need to fit it properly.
This is a general guide on fitting your buoyancy aid (BA). – please take guidance from this and adapt it accordingly depending on the BA you are using.
- Before you actually order your BA, use the size guide for help choosing the right size for you. This will be available on the product page in the sizing tab. Sizing does vary between different brands, so make sure you check out the size guide for each product separately.
- Once you’ve got your BA, loosen all the straps and undo any buckles/fasteners before you try it on. This makes it much easier to fit the BA correctly.
- It’s time to put the BA on. There are 3 main types of buoyancy aid fits:
- Over the head entry.
- Side entry.
- Front zip entry.
- Now do up the zip, and click together the buckles/fasteners.
- When tightening the side straps, it’s best to start at the bottom first to help stop the BA riding up during use.
- Tighten the lower side waist straps on each side of the BA if your BA has these.
- Next, move upwards and tighten the chest straps or front waist strap if your BA has these.
- Pull down the top shoulder straps if your BA has these.
- Place your thumbs under the shoulder straps of your BA, then lift and wiggle the BA to check it is securely in place and doesn’t slide around too much. There will be some movement, but it’s super important that the BA does not slide up over your head.
- You’re done! It’s time for an adventure.
