FAQ: Spraydecks

FAQ: Spraydecks

How to find the right spraydeck, the right size, and how to get them on your kayak.
Here are some frequently asked questions we get asked about Spraydecks.

Q. How do I find the right size spraydeck for my kayak?

A. If you can't find this answer with a trusty Google search, you're going to need to get out the tape measure and find the length and the width of your kayak's cockpit.

All our spraydecks will have a manufacturer's sizing guide available, so you just need to match up your measurements with the appropriate cockpit size.

Q. How do I get my spraydeck on the kayak?

A. The best thing to do is actually put the spraydeck on yourself first, and sit in the kayak. We find this much easier than doing it while out of the kayak.

Pull the spraydeck over the lip of your cockpit, starting at the back and edging your way around to the front.

Finally, you're going to need one big stretch to get the last front bit over the lip. Make sure to give it some oomph!

Q. I'm struggling to get this spraydeck on, but it should fit according to the size guide?

A. Spraydecks (particularly neoprene ones) are designed to be tight fitting. It could just be that you need to really give this one a stretch.

Q. Do I need a neoprene spraydeck, or will a nylon spraydeck work for me?

A. Our advice, a nylon spraydeck is great for recreational use and calm waters. Essentially they help prevent splashes of water getting in your boat.

Neoprene spraydecks offer a tighter seal around your cockpit, and are far less likely to pop off under pressure. So if you're taking on more serious grades of whitewater, or going out for a surf, neoprene is the one for you.
